Jungles In India
India, the land which is known the world over for its rich and diverse
variety of flora and fauna, is also home to a myriad species of rare
wildlife found nowhere else on the globe. The reasons for the same are
simple yet exciting, India currently has more than 500 national parks,
wildlife sanctuaries and tiger reserves. These national parks and
sanctuaries house the largest population of tigers in the world, a large
number of mighty one horned Rhino, the highly endangered and almost extinct
Asiatic Lion and a huge tusker population. These are just a few of the
thousands of animal and bird species who have made the jungles of India
their home. Indian wildlife expedition is a compelling and pleasurable
thought in itself. The choices are immense and unending. Imagine moving
through a thick forest in search of a striped predator on the back of a huge
tusker...seems wonderful. Isn't it? Most of the national parks and wildlife
sanctuaries in India provide various facilities for jungle watching that
include bird watching on jeeps, elephants, cycle or just trekking through
the uneven pathways.
The jungles of India are a heritage of the country which must be taken care
of and preserved with utmost care and attention. There is great diversity to
be seen which is equally or even more than the cultural and traditional
diversity this country possesses. A holiday in the Indian jungles is one of
the most favoured and sought after options. The fresh air, salubrious
climate and serene environs will leave you spellbound and your appetite
whetting for more. The climatic and geographical variations coupled with the
factor of low costs are just some of the reasons which make India feature at
the top in the list of wildlife hotspots of the world. Spread across the
length and breadth of the country, these parks and sanctuaries also offer
the visitors a chance to explore the region and get acquaint with the
culture and traditions that prevail over there. Visit a high altitude
national park in the Northern most state of Jammu and Kashmir or chase a
huge tusker in the wildlife sanctuaries of south India. One thing is
guaranteed, the experience will be different and even more exciting each
time.
The Indian forest Act 1927 was enacted to protect the areas having
significant forest cover and wildlife. The act also defines the procedure
for declaring an area a Reserved Forest, a Protected Forest or a Village
Forest and also highlights about forest offences and the penalties leviable
for such an offence. India has over 500 animal sanctuaries, also referred to
as wildlife sanctuaries. Few of these have been accorded the status of tiger
reserves and are of special significance in preserving the Tiger. Some
wildlife sanctuaries are named as bird sanctuaries and those of national
importance to conservation have been given the status of national parks.
